ARP: Benefits for Sports

As many Americans are aware, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) was signed into law in March of this year. There have been recent updates that have huge potential for sports clubs and organizations that are looking to build, renovate, or upgrade their fields and facilities.

Included in the ARP was $65 billion of direct and flexible aid to the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. These funds will be divided between cities, counties, and towns. Recently, the Department of Treasury finalized a rule that many sports organizations have been eagerly anticipating:

These funds may be used to improve spaces in areas that have been disproportionately impacted, as well as spaces that have been impacted by maintenance or upkeep issues because of increased use during the pandemic.

So, why is this particularly good news for sports?

Those organizations and 501c3s interested in building or improving their facilities now have the opportunity to access this funding. To learn how much funding is available in your city or town, county, or state, visit the National League of Cities search site.

In order to act on this, Cogeo recommends the following tactics:

  1. Get in touch with your city, county, and state leadership: First, if anyone in your organization’s leadership circle has connections to city, county, or state government, work that network. If no, then research the best way to get in touch with leadership, ideally through a connection you can uncover.

  2. Create an impact report: To get ahead and show your commitment to the project, put together an impact report that explains the benefits of the project in a data-driven way. See example here

  3. Make your ask: This will differ depending on the level of government and its leaders, but you will likely have the opportunity to pitch your project and make an ask to unlock these funds.

Cogeo has repeatedly been successful in utilizing these tactics nationwide and is happy to make ourselves available to any organizations looking to take advantage of this opportunity. To set up a time to learn more, please fill out the form below and we will reach out to you.
